Paul Schembri

From injury to joy

No-one likes being hurt. But a spinal injury early in his dance training opened the door to Pilates, and a life-long joy, for Paul Schembri.

Paul’s successful Pilates-inspired rehabilitation from the 1990 back injury persuaded him the method had an important role to play, not just in his life, but in others’ too.

“The dance of life throws us many challenges – physically, mentally and emotionally. These challenges create opportunities for change; opportunities for growth and personal development. The Pilates method mirrors this rather nicely!”

After graduating from Deakin University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Education in dance and English, Paul went on to dance professionally in Western Australia, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory.

At the same time, he trained in the Pilates method, gaining his Australian Pilates Method Association Level 1 Instructor Certificate in 2000, and his Diploma of Professional Pilates Practice in 2014 through Pilates International Training Centre.

As a dancer, Paul knows and feel and the joy of unrestricted and injury-free movement. He delights in sharing it with others, particularly through correct breathing, centering, co-ordination, precision, and the control of flowing movements.

Practicing Pilates for more than 25 years, and teaching it for over 15, he measures success by seeing his clients carry these principles into everyday life. Teaching and continuous learning through Infinity and its clients is also a constant pleasure and challenge.
