Losses and gains reflect life and Pilates for Laura

Laura Bennetto believes life is a continual lesson learned from every angle. For Laura, the death of her middle child in infancy marked a turning point. Today it sees her installed as a committed Infinity Pilates’ instructor.

Geelong-born and educated, Laura moved to Melbourne in 2002 to undertake a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in psychology at the University of Melbourne. It lead to a Masters degree in social work from RMIT three years later followed by a career in human services.

Pilates training from a teenager

Pilates entered her life as a teenager when she needed to address the imbalances in her body specifically for scoliosis.

The intensity of her six years in social work career caused a career review and she took a sabbatical in Hong Kong for three years.

With Pilates by now a constant in her life, she gained qualifications in Reformer Pilates and personal training, teaching casually at a local Pilates studio.

Laura returned home to begin her family and gave birth to a daughter in 2014. The loss of her second child soon after weighed enormously.

“‘Pilates increases strength and flexibility of the body, mind and spirit. It is that incremental building of well-being of the whole person that I really enjoy.’”

Long-term Role

However, the positive role Pilates played in her mental and physical rehabilitation convinced her that The Method had a long-term role in her future, as she could have in others.

Laura completed a Diploma of Pilates Instruction with National Pilates Training, including placement with Kerrie Murphy at Infinity Pilates Studio.  She re-joined Infinity as part of the team in November 2019.
